Join Edith in Empowering Arkansas Through Literacy

At One Community, we believe that literacy has the power to change lives. Since 2009, our nonprofit has been dedicated to helping children build brighter futures for children through education. As the treasurer of One Community, I am proud to be part of a team that strives to bring communities together and improve lives by providing access to programs that promote literacy, health, and leadership.

According to Literacy Action of Central Arkansas, nearly 23% of Arkansans—about 500,000 people—struggle with the most basic literacy level (level 1), facing challenges like limited vocabulary and difficulty with everyday tasks. 

Literacy transformed my life—it gave me the opportunity to attend college, earn my doctorate in law, and learn multiple languages. These experiences laid the foundation for a better future for me and my family, and I know it can do the same for so many others. By supporting One Community, you are giving children the gift of knowledge and opening doors to a world of possibilities. Our programs — such as Feed Your Brain and Science Action Club — equip children with the skills they need to succeed—skills that will help them thrive today and create brighter futures tomorrow.
