“I can’t do it. I just can't do it!” Davis yells. Covering his face with his hands, he tries to disappear. Memories of previous classmates mocking him runs through his mind and shame comes over his body.

"I need a break!" he exclaims. Excused to go outside, Davis runs up into the treehouse and closes his eyes. He remembers what he has learned at Clover Community School about regulating his emotions and takes a deep breath.

Students at Clover Community School are given the chance to take breaks safely, practice self-compassion and rejoin class when they are ready. Students like Davis are learning how to believe in themselves again.

A note from Davis's Mom:

"It’s been difficult to find the right school for my son, Davis. He struggles with anxiety (along with other learning difficulties). He went through three schools in four years until we found Clover – a completely different approach. He wakes up every morning to yoga, then farm chores (he loves feeding Pickles the donkey), and hands-on lessons that utilize the farm and the community to teach core skills. He used to cry in the hallway, run away from class (especially tests), eat or tear up his artwork because it was “ugly”, say that everyone bullied or was mean to him, and was embarrassed to read or write in front of others. Now he is confident (he says he is a great reader) and has empathy for others’ “difficulties”, not just his own."

You can help students like Davis thrive in an environment that celebrates different learners. Donate today to empower every student to believe in themselves again.
