Ian's 2026 NWA Pride Fundraiser

When I came to the University of Arkansas as a student, I came as a local, but a somewhat sheltered one. During that time, some of my closest friendships in college were with out and proud LGBTQ classmates who introduced me to a community I was only beginning to know. What I found wasn't unfamiliar. It was people who wanted connection, joy, and a place to belong.

My first NWA Pride made that real. The attendance, the color, the noise, people hugging strangers and all done in partnership with local businesses and organizations showing up and creating something that felt exactly like what it was: the celebration you'd want it to be.

This is my community. It's why I joined the NWA Equality board, so I could put my background and skills to work where it counts. Right now, it counts more than ever. Corporate sponsors are pulling back. Political pressure is real. But somewhere out there are people — including people we haven't met yet — who need what Pride represents: visibility, belonging, and proof that this community has their back.

No one requires this of us as allies, but that's exactly why I think it matters that I show up and ask you to do the same.
