WHO WE ARE:

The Marshallese Educational Initiative is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas. Our work is centered on mitigating the impact of the nuclear testing legacy, which has resulted in negative and ongoing consequences to our peoples' health, environment, and culture.

WHAT WE DO:

We help community members access available resources, like Medicaid and SNAP, and educate them so they can navigate life in Arkansas and the United States.

We improve Marshallese health through education about navigating the healthcare system, improving food security, health equity initiatives, and through diabetes management and newborn screening programs in the Marshall Islands.

We promote language access through our interpreter training programs, translation services, and youth classes.

We empower women through health and wellness initiatives and by educating the community about gender-based violence and available resources.

We promote Marshallese culture through art and music events, history and culture classes, and projects, like Songs of Our Atolls, which bring youth together with elders who share traditional knowledge.

We promote educational attainment through FAFSA enrollment events, family workshops, and programs toMEI Staff and MARK Harmony during a United Nations's side event, 2024.increase enrollment and retention in higher education and workforce.

We educate about the nuclear testing legacy through international advocacy efforts, including at the United Nations, and locally through events and youth workshops that utilize art and music.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT:

As an organization that works to achieve health equity and social and nuclear justice for the Marshallese people, our federal funding is under threat and some grants we have acquired for years are no longer available. Your support will go toward maintaining our capacity to ensure language access, cultural promotion, health equity, women's empowerment, youth programs, and health projects directly linked to the Marshall Islands.
