Since 1997, CASA of Northwest Arkansas has brought members of the community together to become advocates for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. CASA of NWA provides training and support for volunteer advocates assigned to foster care cases throughout the NWA region.

From 12 volunteers serving 22 children in 1997 to 327 volunteers serving 728 children in 2023, CASA volunteers are dedicated to ensuring a consistent voice, safe home, and hope for the future to the children on their assigned cases.

Today, CASA of NWA covers a four-county area (Washington, Benton, Carroll, and Madison counties) and provides advocacy to every child in need of a CASA volunteer.

These numbers say a lot about the impact our program has on the community, but it is nothing compared to the one-on-one relationships our CASA volunteers have with the children they serve.

CASA gives COMMITMENT.

Carson has been in foster care since 2016. In these last 7 years he’s had 5 caseworkers, multiple therapists, and lived in a staggering 25 placements.

But he has had only 1 CASA, Susan.

CASA gives SOLUTIONS.

CASA volunteers play many roles – advocate, mentor, champion. In many ways, CASA volunteers are also valuable problem solvers.

Emily has been working on her current case for a little over a year, and has found so many ways to solve problems for her CASA kids and their parents. Since the kids aren’t placed together, she shares pictures and updates during her visits, so all the siblings know the others are doing well. Emily has also spent time helping the parents clean and organize their home.

CASA gives MEMORIES.

CASA volunteers build lasting memories with the children and young people on their cases.

Simon has been in foster care since 2022, and like many teenage boys, he loves being outside. Making memories with Simon is important to his CASA, Glen. Simon has lived in seven placements, from all the way in Benton to right here in NWA. No matter where Simon is placed, if there’s an accessible pond, Glen makes it a priority to bring gear so they can fish together.

CASA gives BELONGING.

CASA volunteers work to create familiarity for their CASA children when they’re removed from home.

In order to help their CASA kids feel more at home in their foster placements, Hannah and Dianna passed family recipes from the children’s mother to the foster care providers. They wanted to ensure that the children were offered meals that they were familiar with and enjoyed.

CASA gives HOPE.

Faced with so many uncertainties and unknowns, foster care can, at times, feel hopeless for children and their families.

When a parent on Tom’s case was losing hope that he would have a favorable outcome despite all the efforts he had made, Tom was there to encourage him not to give up. Tom’s recommendation that the children be placed with their dad was accepted by the judge and the children were soon moved in. They are all thriving and doing well!

CASA gives. Will you?
